For the smallest state in the country, Rhode Island punches well above its size. Providence has two full on-premise clubs, a house party and a regular event series, and couples drive in from Boston, Connecticut and southern Massachusetts because most of New England has nothing like it.
Electricity Social Club occupies the second floor of a converted mill tower on Manton Avenue in Olneyville. It opens Friday and Saturday nights plus a Sunday evening, BYOB with mixers provided, and has a dance floor, play rooms and a dungeon. Choice Social Club on Porter Street, run by the same operator since 2009, opens Saturday and Sunday nights with themed events, a patio and a massage room; you hand your bottle to staff at check-in and it is labeled with your member number. Choice also runs a monthly ropes class on the third Thursday.
For something more like a dance party, Escapades New England takes over Platforms Dance Club for big themed nights, including a July foam party and a fall masquerade ball, with a licensed bar. The Playground RI hosts RSVP-only house parties on Fridays and Saturdays, and the traveling Mindbender series also calls Providence home.
