New York City lost its most famous couples club when Le Trapeze on East 27th Street closed in 2016, but the city still supports more on-premise venues than anywhere else in the Northeast. They split into two camps, and it helps to know which is which before you pick a night.
The traditional swing clubs are Checkmate on East 56th Street, Caligula in Astoria and Club Labyrinth on East 28th Street. Checkmate is the most formal: suits for men, heels for women, couples and single women only, and your own bottle poured at an attended bar. Caligula has several levels, parking and wheelchair access, and asks for dress to impress on weekends. Labyrinth runs four nights a week and mixes swinging with kink. All three are BYOB.
The second camp is newer. NSFW in Chelsea, Hacienda in Bushwick and Top Floor Club run application-based play parties with workshops and orientations, and they say plainly that their crowd skews young; NSFW puts its average member age around 28. Couples over 50 will usually feel more at home in the first group.
Upstate is a different world of hotel parties. Satin Sheet Dreams holds couples events in Latham, outside Albany, and Syracuse Social Club throws themed Saturday dances at rotating hotels. Western New York has had no fixed club since the Badd Kitty Club in Fredonia burned in 2022.
